VOLUNTEER Fire Department News top of pageFire Department Responses so far in 2009:
Canosia Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Gene Stevens and I have been
working on updating some of our training and exploring new training
opportunities. One of the best training exposés is FDIC, it is the largest
fire seminar of its kind in the world. This coming year I would like to
send four of our firefighters to this conference. The instructors there are
world class.
In 2008 the Fire Department was awarded two grants from FEMA for fire
related items. One grant ($35,000) was written for Operation and Safety.
We asked for computer based training materials, computers, and wild land
jump suits. The other grant was written for a new vehicle and we asked for
monies to purchase a new tanker. The grant total was $157,225. We received
$149,364 with the Township contributing the required 5%. We received the
new tanker on June 18, 2009. The old tanker needed to be taken out of
service and not used again for fire service.
On October 6, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM we will have an OPEN HOUSE.
The Canosia Volunteer Fire Department will be having demonstrations on
fighting fire using a hose line and extinguishing a fire using a fire
extinguisher. There will be coffee, juice, cookies, and hot dogs
available. This year there will be drawings for fire extinguishers and for
CO detectors to be given away during the open house.
The Canosia Volunteer Fire Department has 20 very dedicated members and our
complement is 25 so we have some room if anyone is interested in joining!
